I am finally starting my own private practice as a Core Energetics practitioner-in-training. Core is a really amazing body-based psychotherapeutic modality, that has helped me work through a lot of my own shit. If you're in a moment of crisis, or just want to feel more alive, I currently have spaces on Monday and Friday afternoons.
Watch this space for a link to the new webpage. Feel free to CONTACT me for more information, or to book an appointment.
Come learn the ancient shamanic practice of journeying into the subconscious to the rhythm of the drum and rattle. Used for thousands of years by shaman to access wisdom and guidance, drum journeying can be an incredible tool for accessing your own imagination and creativity.
Drum journeying uses the process of “entrainment”, where your brain waves succumb to the rhythm of the drum or rattle, and change from vibrating at a beta frequency – that state of being alert and conscious – to a frequency associated with a theta state, which is the brain wave pattern you experience just prior to falling asleep.
Beginning with the very basics, we will progress through the 8-week workshop to a point where we can journey with more purpose, seeking answers to specific questions. This ancient human technology yields reliably interesting results and is useful as a meditative practise, to stimulate the imagination, to gather material to work with creatively in your own art practice, or simply to find out more about what your mind is capable of. All you need is a yoga mat, a light blanket, and a notebook and pen. No prior experience is necessary, nor are you required to believe anything for this to work. It is purely experiential.
We will be meeting every Tuesday evening, from 7:00 to 9:30 pm, April 12 to May 31, location to be announced. The cost is $240 for the 8 weeks. (Drop-ins also allowed, though some continuity will make for a better course. Sliding scale also available, if necessary.) To sign up, go to: www.writeyourheartout.net
Autobiographical Fiction classes will resume on Tuesday, March 1st, and Soulful Writing classes will resume Sunday, March 6th. Use the Sign-Up page on my website www.writeyourheartout.net to join!
Back by popular demand, I will be heading up another round of writing workshops in July and August: every Tuesday evening, from 7 to 10 pm. The new dates are July 7th to August 25th. Treat yourself to some summer writing fun! Check out the details at www.writeyourheartout.net
After an amazing 8-week class of SOULFUL WRITING, we are wrapping up next Tuesday and heading into a new 8-week class on AUTOBIOGRAPHICAL FICTION. Come learn how to write about your life so that it is as interesting to other people as it is to yourself – and maybe discover some hidden themes and patterns in the meantime. This class is designed to teach you some really interesting and fundamental technical aspects of writing, but is open to people of all levels. No previous writing experience is required. Some reading and a one-page typed scene will be asked of you every week. It's a fun class with a great track record. Come revel in the pleasure of your own narcissism, while learning to make that narcissism intriguing to others. Classes start April 7th, and will take place every Tuesday evening for 8 weeks (with the exception of April 28th, when I will be away), from 7 to 10 pm. $400 for the full course. See my website www.writeyourheartout.net for details.

I wanted a crow, or a painted, tin, flaming heart, on the cover of my book, and then I discovered this incredible artist online, Katja Ramirez, and saw this painting she'd done (above, right) and knew I wanted her to design my book cover. I sent her a few pages of the novel and she loved it. I found out that, like me, she'd grown up in Montreal and was about my age and, suddenly, it felt like fate. Now she lives in Austin, Texas. You can see her amazing work at: katjaramirez.com. It was the closest I've ever come to getting a tattoo.
Sometimes when the sky is this blue, you have to paint your house pink.
A lot of good art is culled from the dustbins of wretched alleyways. Come write your heart out with this scavenger.
